Our Story
The idea for York Region Baby was born in
2005 with the birth of of Editor's first child,
but at that time it was scribbles in a file foler,
where she kept all her valuable information on
parenting, resources and activities in the area.
York Region Baby became reality in early 2006
with the launch of a new website for parents
and expectant parents serving York Region.
This independant online parenting magazine
servingYork Region, includingNewmarket, Aurora,
Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Keswick and beyond
was meet with great enthusiam from parents, as well as sponsors.
York Region Baby showcased news and information for expectant and new parents, with highlights including product & book reviews, relevant parenting articles, craft ideas, and an information resource centre for prenatal, postnatal and toddler related topics.
But in March 2008, it was time for York Region Baby to grow up! And on March 1 2008, 2 years after the launch of York Region Baby morphed into York Region Parent, now serving not just parents of babies and toddlers, but of preschoolers up to age 10.
We offer free monthly newsletters that deliver news and information to parents and parents-to-be. Our events section help parents keep in touch with local events in York Region. In our event calendar we list programs for baby and parents, including mommy & me classes, prenatal yoga, prenatal classes, family related activities in York Region and car seat clinics.
We are very involved in the community and support many causes and charities, including
- Kenadie Jourdin-Bromley who was diagnosed with primordial dwarfism, a genetic condition that is believed to affect only about 100 people in the world. She isn't expected to grow past about 30 inches or weigh more than 8 pounds.
- The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario -- we raised over $750 in 2006 and our goal is $1,000 for this years Walk for Heart.
- We donate a portion of all our profits to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
- Our Babypalooza Baby Show raised over $600 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and The Linden Fund
- We've donated gift baskets to KC's Cancer Cushion Fund, Raise the Barre, La Leche League and more!
